HAYLEY WHITE - PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO
COLLECTION OF MY TOP WORKS

I LOOK; THEREFORE I AM... NOT
This article was the investigative project of my Journalism major. We had to research and conduct interviews over a series of months in our chosen subject.
I chose to research identity struggles of fair-skinned Māori and conducted interviews with two of my classmates who mentioned their heritage in class time. I also spoke with a senior researcher and professor at AUT and a psychologist who specializes in race and racism.

SUSTAINABLE FASHION
I wrote this article about the impact that the fast fashion industry has on the environment through water and textile waste. I spoke with Maria Richards, owner of Duo Drops, an Instagram second hand thrift store. As a Māori woman, she connects her kaupapa to the environment, Papatūānuku. She also donates her money to charities monthly from her earnings.

This article harked back to my university class where we had the discussion about whether or not culture is a good enough reason for otherwise harmful practices. I looked at both the outside and inside perspective where I found some women actually encourage the procedure despite the harm it can do to young women.
ARTICLE OF THE WEEK
Having talked about sex and marriage in previous articles, I thought it would be interesting to step out and talk about something new - namely, polygamy, polygyny, and polyamory. While generally known by people as "open relationships" they are quite different. Dee Morgan has been polyamorous for nearly 20 years and talks me through her journey of discovery, how she navigates her relationships, and what being polyamorous means to her. I also spoke to both Dee and Auckland based sex therapist Edit Horvath about the psychology around having multiple partners and what it takes to make these kinds of relationships work.
